In 1860 he was a 19 year old farmer on his father's large place near Luthersville in Meriwether County, GA. He enlisted as a Private in Company B, 13th Georgia Infantry on 8 July 1861 in Griffin, GA.

On the Campaign

He was killed in action at Sharpsburg, MD on 17 September 1862.
