He was wounded in action at Sharpsburg, MD on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was on wounded furlough to 16 November 1862. He was severely wounded in the chest at Gettysburg, PA on 1 July 1863 and captured. He died in a US Army field hospital there on 22 July 1863 of wounds and typhoid pneumonia.
