Before Sharpsburg

From Troup County, GA, he enlisted as a Private in Company K, 13th Georgia Infantry on 8 July 1861 in Griffin, GA. He was appointed 3rd Sergeant on 22 October 1861.

On the Campaign

He was captured in action at Sharpsburg, MD on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was paroled at Sharpsburg on 21 September and in a hospital in Richmond, VA by 17 October 1862, then sent on to Camp Lee. He deserted at Waynesboro, VA on 9 December and was a prisoner in Washington, DC by 4 February 1865. He took an oath of allegiance at City Point, VA and was furnished transportation to Savannah, GA later that month.
