A 30 year old carpenter from Chester, PA, he enrolled on 31 May 1861 and mustered into service as 2nd Lieutenant of Company C, First Pennsylvania Reserves on 5 September 1861.

On the Campaign

He was killed in action at Turner's Gap on South Mountain, MD on 14 September 1862.
