Before Antietam
A 21 year old shoemaker in Stoneham, MA, he mustered as a Private in the 8th Massachusetts Light Artillery Battery for 6 months' service on 17 June 1862.
On the Campaign
He was mortally wounded in action on South Mountain on 14 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He died of wounds in a field hospital in Middletown, MD on 11 October 1862 and was probably buried nearby.
After the War
He was reinterred in Antietam National Cemetery in about 1867.
