Before Sharpsburg
He enlisted at Rocky Point, Attala County, MS as a Private in Company B, 2nd Mississippi Infantry Battalion on 13 May (or 7 June) 1861.
On the Campaign
He was left behind, sick and "unable for duty" at a hospital in Frederick, MD on 12 September 1862 and was captured there; he expressly asked not to be returned by exchange or upon parole.
The rest of the War
He was released on a parole on 6 October 1862 "permitted to proceed to, and remain within any of the Loyal States." He was afterward listed as a deserter on the regimental rolls.
