He enlisted at Vicksburg, MS as a Private in Company G, 2nd Mississippi Infantry Battalion on 27 March or 2 April 1862 and was appointed First Sergeant, date not given. He was wounded at Williamsburg, VA on 5 May 1862.

On the Campaign

He was listed as a deserter in Maryland as of 10 September 1862 and was captured there, possibly at Sharpsburg on the 17th.

The rest of the War

On 27 September 1862 he signed a statement requesting he not be exchanged or returned by parole, and was released to "proceed to and remain in any of the loyal States."
