Before Sharpsburg
He enrolled at Vicksburg, MS as a Private in Company G, 2nd Mississippi Infantry Battalion on 27 April 1862.
On the Campaign
He was wounded by a gunshot in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was treated at hospitals in Richmond, Culpeper, and Lynchburg, VA from 27 September to at least 26 November 1862 but returned to duty on 27 December 1862. He was wounded again by a gunshot, about May 1863, and back to his Company about 30 July 1863. He was wounded for the third time, on Rowanty Creek near Petersburg, VA on 27 October 1864, returned to duty by December. He was captured by Federal troops about 8 March 1865 as a deserter and in Washington, DC by 13 March. He took an oath of allegiance there and was furnished transportation to Chicago, IL.
