Before Sharpsburg

He enlisted at Vicksburg, MS as a Private in Company G, 2nd Mississippi Infantry Battalion on 27 April 1862. He was wounded in the shoulder at Gaines' Mill, VA on 27 June 1862, treated in a hospital in Richmond, VA, and returned to duty on 23 August.

On the Campaign

He was slightly wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He transferred to Captain Moody's Company, Madison (Louisiana) Light Artillery on 30 October 1862. He was sentenced on 19 May 1863 by a court martial to forfeit pay, charges not given (Gen. Orders No. 66, HQ Dept. Northern Va). He was surrendered with his battery at Appomattox Court House, VA on 9 April 1865; his parole has his age as 28, 5' 10" tall, grey eyes, brown hair, a resident of Washita Parish, LA.
