Before Antietam

He went to Dubuque, IA with his parents and siblings in 1853 and by 1860 was an attorney in Detroit, MI. He was appointed First Lieutenant in the 12th United States Infantry, to date from 14 May 1861. He was on recruiting duty at Dubuque, IA by November 1861 and to at least March 1862.

On the Campaign

He was with the Battalion at Antietam on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was appointed Captain to date from 21 July 1862 and was killed on the Weldon Railroad, VA on 19 August 1864. He was honored by brevet to Major for his actions there.
