Before Sharpsburg
He mustered in Richmond as a Private in the First Company, Richmond Howitzers Light Artillery on 21 April 1861. He was promoted to Corporal in 1862.
On the Campaign
He commanded the battery at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was promoted to Sergeant in 1863 and commissioned 2nd Lieutenant on 21 September 1864.
After the War
In 1870 he was a bookkeeper in Richmond, VA. By 1880 and to at least 1920 he was a retail grocer there.
