Before Sharpsburg

In 1860 he was a 19 year old living on his parents' farm at Westville, Simpson County, MS. He mustered as a Private in Company B, 16th Mississippi Infantry on 29 May 1861 in Corinth, MS. He was 4th Corporal by October 1861 and elected 3rd Lieutenant/Junior 2nd Lieutenant of his Company on 26 April 1862 at the Army reorganization. He was wounded near Richmond, VA on 6 July 1862.

On the Campaign

He was killed in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
