Before Sharpsburg

Age 28, he enlisted at Westville, MS on 26 April 1861 and mustered as First Sergeant of Company B, 16th Mississippi Infantry on 29 May 1861 in Corinth, MS. He was commissioned 2nd Lieutenant on 21 February 1862 and elected Captain on 26 April 1862 at the Army reorganization.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in the leg and captured in action at Sharpsburg, MD on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was paroled on 30 September 1862 and was back with his Company by the end of 1862. He was captured at Spotsylvania Court House, VA on 12 May 1864. He was held at the Old Capitol Prison in Washington, DC, then sent to Fort Delaware on 15 June. He took an oath of allegiance there and was released on 16 June 1865.
