Age 26, he enlisted at Natchez on 23 April 1861 and mustered as a Private in Company D, 16th Mississippi Infantry on 26 June 1861 in Corinth.
On the Campaign
He was wounded in the face in action at Sharpsburg, MD on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was wounded again, by a gunshot to his right shoulder at Spotsylvania Court House, VA on 12 May 1864 and retired for disability on 2 December 1864.
