Before Sharpsburg

In 1860 he was a 21 year old living with his father and 3 siblings on the large family farm in Wilkinson County, MS. He enlisted at Woodville, MS on 21 April 1861 and mustered on 27 May 1861 as a Private in Company K of the 16th Mississippi Infantry in Corinth, MS.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in the leg in action at Sharpsburg, MD on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was home on furlough from about November 1862 to January 1863 and was appointed 5th Sergeant by June 1863. He was mortally wounded on 8 May 1864 at Spotsylvania Court House, VA and died at Howard's Grove Hospital in Richmond on 22 May 1864.
