Age 28, he enlisted at Hazlehurst, Copiah County, MS on 9 March 1861 and mustered as a Private in Company D, 12th Mississippi Infantry at Corinth, MS on 12 May 1861. He was wounded by a gunshot in action near Richmond in late June 1862 and sent on 20 day furlough from a Richmond hospital on 3 July 1862.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in the arm in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was last paid on 5 August 1862 with no later military record.
