He enlisted on 24 April 1861 at Vicksburg, MS and mustered as a Private in Company E, 12th Mississippi Infantry on 10 May 1861 in Corinth, MS.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in the leg in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was in a Richmond, VA hospital from October to 11 January 1863, then returned to his unit. He was wounded again, slightly, in the abdomen on the Weldon Railroad near Petersburg, VA on 21 August 1864. He was capture on 2 April 1865 at Petersburg and held at Point Lookout, MD to 20 June 1865, when he was released after taking an oath of allegiance. He was in Washington, DC the next day and was provided transportation to Vicksburg, MS.
