Age 23, he enlisted on 27 April 1861 at Brookhaven, MS and mustered as a Private in Company H, 12th Mississippi Infantry on 5 May 1861 in Corinth, MS.
On the Campaign
He was captured in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He signed a US parole and requested not to be returned to his unit by exchange on 27 September 1862 and was released to "proceed to and remain in any loyal state." There is no later military record.
