Before Sharpsburg

Age 23, he enlisted and mustered as a Private in Company K, 12th Mississippi Infantry on 1 July at Union Mills, VA (or 4 August 1861 in Manassas, VA). He was commissioned 3rd (Junior 2nd) Lieutenant on 8 September 1862.

On the Campaign

He was wounded by a gunshot through his right hip in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was in the CS Army hospital in Staunton, VA by 4 November 1862 and was absent, wounded, in hospitals and on furlough into August 1864, then was retired to the Invalid Corps on 12 August 1864.

After the War

He returned to Shelbyville, KY and was County Assessor and Clerk of the Court (to 1884).
