Before Sharpsburg

Age 19, from Oxford, MS, he enlisted and mustered at Bristoe, VA on 19 August 1861 as a Private in Company E, 19th Mississippi Infantry. He was wounded and captured at Williamsburg, VA on 5 May 1862 and was in the US Ary hospital at Fortress Monroe, VA by 12 May. He was transferred to Fort Delaware on 15 July and exchanged to return to his Company, date not given.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was in Richmond, VA by 18 October 1862 and then home on wounded furlough to at least November 1863. He was afterward noted as absent from his Company "unfit for duty" and "permanently disabled" to at least December 1864, the last record in his military file.
