Before Sharpsburg
Age 23, he enrolled and mustered on 15 May 1861 as First Lieutenant of Company E, 19th Mississippi Infantry at Oxford, MS. He was elected Captain on 11 June 1861. He was wounded at Williamsburg, VA on 5 May 1862.
On the Campaign
He was wounded in the hand in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was in a Richmond, VA hospital by 27 September but died there of smallpox on 10 November (or 10 October) 1862.
