Before Sharpsburg

He enlisted and mustered on 15 May 1861 as a Private in Company H, 19th Mississippi Infantry at Canaan in Tippah County, MS. He was promoted to 3rd Sergeant in September 1861.

On the Campaign

He was wounded by a gunshot to his head/face in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was in a hospital in Richmond, VA by 27 September 1862 and returned to his Company on 17 October 1862. He was appointed regimental Ordnance Sergeant on 30 July 1864 and was surrendered and paroled at Appomattox Court House, VA on 9 April 1865.
