Before Antietam

In 1860 he was a 20 year old cordwainer (shoemaker) living with the Dow family in Lynn, MA. He enlisted there on 19 April 1861 and mustered as a Private in Company I, 29th Massachusetts Infantry on 14 May.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was discharged for disability on 6 January 1863 at Falmouth near Fredericksburg, VA. He enlisted again, on 17 August 1864 as a Private in Company L, 4th Massachusetts Heavy Artillery. He mustered out as a Corporal on 17 June 1865.

After the War

By 1870 and to at least 1900 he was a shoemaker in Lynn.
