Before Sharpsburg

He enlisted as a Private in Company D, 23rd Georgia Infantry on 10 September 1861 at Camp McDonald in Kennesaw, GA.

On the Campaign

He was wounded by a gunshot to his thigh which broke the bone and was captured in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was paroled on 3 October, sent to Fortress Monroe, VA from Fort McHenry in Baltimore on 17 October, and in a Richmond, VA hospital by 23 October. He was officially exchanged at Aiken's Landing, VA on 10 November 1862 and furloughed home the same day. From July 1863 to about October he was detailed to the provost-guard in Raleigh, NC. He was sick in a Savannah, GA hospital by April 1864 with no later military record.
