Age 36, he enlisted on 26 May 1861 on Long Island, NY and mustered in as a Private in Company D, 42nd New York Infantry on 22 June 1861. He was promoted to Sergeant, date not given.
On the Campaign
He was wounded in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was wounded again, at Gettysburg, PA on 3 July 1863 and died of disease in Baltimore, MD on 5 September 1863.
