Age 28, he enlisted on 26 August 1861 in New York City and mustered as a Private in Company F, 51st New York Infantry on 18 October.
On the Campaign
He was wounded, probably in action at Fox's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He reenlisted on 1 December 1863, but was mortally wounded on 6 May 1864 in the Wilderness, VA and died of wounds in Fredericksburg on 18 May.
