Age 35, he enlisted on 23 September 1861 in New York City and he mustered as a Private in Company B, 51st New York Infantry on 27 September.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action, probably at Fox's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was discharged at the end of his term of enlistment on 10 October 1864 near Poplar Grove Church, VA.

His service from the Adjutant General,1 who does not mention his wound. His wounding is from a casualty list in the New York Herald of 23 September 1862.
