Before Sharpsburg
In 1860 he was a 17 year old living with his prosperous farmer father and 4 siblings in Spotsylvania Courthouse, VA. He enlisted as a Private in the Fredericksburg Light Artillery battery, date not given.
On the Campaign
He was with his battery in Maryland and was mortally wounded in action at Boteler's Ford near Shepherdstown, VA on 19 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He died of wounds in the CS hospital in Berryville, VA on 25 September 1862.
