In 1860 he was a 33 year old farmer at Watkinsville, Clarke (now Oconee) County, GA. He enlisted in Athens, GA as a Private in Company D of the Infantry Battalion, Cobb's Legion, on 5 September 1861.

On the Campaign

He was killed in action at Crampton's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September 1862.

The rest of the War

His widow Agnes filed for his final pay in February 1863.
