A successful farmer's son from Hartford, he enlisted and mustered as a Private in Company A, 8th Connecticut Infantry on 25 September 1861.
On the Campaign
He was slightly wounded in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was discharged at the end of his term of enlistment on 24 September 1864.
