A farmer's son from Cheshire, CT, he enlisted on 6 September 1861 and mustered as a Private in Company E, 8th Connecticut Infantry on 25 September.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in the right shoulder in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He reenlisted on 25 February 1864 but was killed at Petersburg, VA on 15 June 1864.
