Before Antietam

In 1860 he was a 20 year old in Hartford, CT. He enlisted on 25 April 1861 and mustered as a Private in Rifle Company A of the 3rd Connecticut Infantry for 90-days service on 11 May. He mustered out with them on 12 August. He enlisted again, on 3 September 1861, and mustered as a Sergeant in Company F, 8th Connecticut Infantry on 23 September. He was appointed First Sergeant on 8 September 1862.

On the Campaign

He was severely wounded in the wrist in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He reenlisted on 23 December 1863 and was commissioned 2nd Lieutenant of Company K on 17 July 1864. He was promoted to First Lieutenant on 23 August but was killed at Fort Harrison/Chaffin's Farm near Richmond, VA on 29 September 1864.
