Before Antietam

In 1860 he was a 22 year old clerk in Norwalk, CT. He enlisted on 24 April 1861 and mustered as First Sergeant of Infantry Company A (later G), 3rd Connecticut Infantry for 3 months service on 14 May. He mustered out with them on 12 August. He enrolled again, on 18 September 1861, and mustered as First Lieutenant of Company H, 8th Connecticut Infantry on 23 September. He was promoted to Captain of Company G on 22 February 1862.

On the Campaign

He was severely wounded in the body and left arm in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was discharged for disability on 5 January 1863.

After the War

By 1880 and to at least 1900 he was a hatter in Norwalk, CT.
