Before Sharpsburg

He enlisted on 17 August 1861 at Morganston, GA as a Private in Company E, 2nd Georgia Infantry.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in the foot with broken metatarsal (mid-foot) bones and captured in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was paroled on 3 October 1862, sent to Fort McHenry in Baltimore on 20 October. He was sent for exchange to Fortress Monroe, VA, in a Richmond, VA hospital by 24 October, furloughed there on 1 November, and was home on furlough by 18 November 1862. He was slightly wounded again, in the foot, in the Wilderness, VA on 6 May 1864 and was absent, disabled to at least December 1864. He was paroled at Greensboro, NC on 1 May 1865.
