Before Sharpsburg

In 1860 he was a 21 year old farmer at White Sulphur Springs in Meriwether County, GA. He enlisted on 9 May 1861 and mustered at Greenville, Meriwether County, GA on 12 July 1861 as a Private in Company B, 2nd Georgia Infantry. He was wounded at Seven Pines, VA in June 1862. He was promoted to Sergeant by August 1862.

On the Campaign

He was wounded again, in action near Boteler's Ford on the Potomac River on 20 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was in General Hospital #3 in Richmond, VA by 26 September and furloughed home on 8 October 1862. He was wounded yet again by a gunshot to his left arm at Chickamauga, GA on 19 September 1863, both forearm bones broken. He was furloughed again on 16 October and served as a clerk at the post at LaGrange, GA for seven months to May 1864.

He was elected First Lieutenant of Company A, 4th Georgia Reserves on 10 May 1864, appointed Adjutant on 23 May, and was posted to Andersonville, GA by 17 July, when his new Captain applied for his formal transfer out of the 2nd Georgia. He was discharged (from the 2nd Georgia Infantry ?) due to disability from wounds on 12 August 1864.

After the War

In 1870 he was farming in Chatham County, GA. By 1880 and to at least 1900 he was a farmer back in Meriwether County.
