Before Antietam

Age 22 (25?), a laborer, he enlisted at Lykens, PA and mustered in Pottsville, PA on 10 October 1861 as a Private in Company G, 96th Pennsylvania Infantry.

On the Campaign

He joined his Company in Maryland on 19 September 1862 in camp on the Potomac near Sharpsburg.

The rest of the War

He reenlisted on 15 February 1864 at Brandy Station, VA and was wounded on 10 May 1864. He transferred to Company G of the 95th Pennsylvania Infantry on 18 October 1864 (as the 96th mustered out) and mustered out with them on 17 July 1865.

After the War

By 1870 he was a farm worker at Clinton in Cass County, IN, but in 1880 he was mining coal back in Dauphin County, PA. He began receiving a veteran's disability pension in July 1892. In 1900 he was a coal miner in Monitor Township, Bay County, MI and by 1920, then 80 years old, had retired in the coal town Fayetteville, WV.
