Before Antietam

Age 33, he enlisted on 23 October 1861 in New York City for three years, and he mustered as a Private in Company H, 61st NY Infantry on 4 October.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in the right eye in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was admitted to US Army General Hospital #1 in Frederick, MD on 24 September and transferred out on 28 September. He was discharged for disability from wounds on 30 November at Philadelphia, PA and began receiving a pension in December 1862.
