He enlisted and mustered on 26 September 1861 as a Private in Company F, 96th Pennsylvania Infantry.

On the Campaign

He was wounded by a gunshot, probably in action at Crampton’s Gap on South Mountain on 14 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was admitted to the US Army General Hospital at Camp B in Frederick, MD on 13 November and returned to his unit on 27 January 1863. He mustered out with the regiment on 21 October 1864.
