Before Sharpsburg
A 21 year old farmer from Weogufka in Coosa County, Alabama, he enlisted there on 22 July 1861 and mustered as a Private in Company H, 13th Alabama Infantry on 12 August.
On the Campaign
He was severely wounded by a gunshot in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was in General Hospital #4 in Richmond, VA by 26 September and was furloughed home on 30 September. He was absent recovering into May 1863, after the battle at Chancellorsville, then returned to duty. He was captured at Gettysburg, PA on 1 July 1863, was briefly at Fort McHenry in Baltimore, then sent to the prison at Fort Delaware on 6 July. He was a prisoner there to 14 June 1865, when he took an oath of allegiance and was released.
After the War
By 1870 and to at least 1880 he was a farmer living near his father-in-law's place at Flint Hill, Coosa County. He died after being thrown from a mule at age 61.
