Before Antietam
An 18 year old watchmaker in Roxbury, MA, he enlisted there on 1 August 1862 and mustered as Private, Company K, 35th Massachusetts Infantry on 10 August.
On the Campaign
He was wounded by a gunshot to his face in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862:
destroying the left eye completely and injuring the sight of the right eye, and causing complete immobility of the lower jaw.
The rest of the War
He was admitted to the US Army General Hospital at Camp B and was discharged there for "total" disability on 18 (or 22) December 1862.
After the War
At the 1890 US Veterans' Census he was living in Boston, MA.
