Before Antietam
From Kalamazoo, age 21, he enlisted at Fort Wayne, MI on 28 June 1861 and mustered as a Corporal in Company I, Seventh Infantry on 22 August.
On the Campaign
He was wounded in the foot in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was promoted to Sergeant in May 1863, reenlisted at Stevensburg, VA on 18 Dcember 1863, and was appointed First Sergeant, date not given. He was mortally wounded at Spotsylvania, VA on 12 May 1864 and died two days later.
