In 1860 he was a 26 year old farmer at Comstock in Kalamazoo County, MI. He enlisted at Galesburg on 12 August 1861 and mustered as a Private in Company I, Seventh Michigan Infantry on 22 August.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was killed on 2 July 1863 at Gettysburg, PA.
