Before Sharpsburg
From Henrico County, VA, he enlisted on 22 April 1861 at Camp Hill and mustered as a Private in Company G, 15th Virginia Infantry. He was elected Jr 2nd Lieutenant at the army reorganization on 25 April 1862.
On the Campaign
He was wounded by a gunshot to his left lung "implicating the pericardium" in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was disabled for field service and absent from his regiment until retired my a medical board to the Invalid Corps in November 1864 due to endocarditis (infection of heart lining). He had been promoted to Senior 2nd Lieutenant on 25 January 1863. He was at Camp Lee in Richmond on 7 April 1865.
