Before Sharpsburg

An unmarried 24 year old farmer, he enlisted at Pine Apple, AL on 26 April 1862 and mustered as a Private in Company C, 44th Alabama Infantry.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in the arm and knee in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862. Acting Assistant Surgeon Tom Lee described it:

The rest of the War

He was admitted to Chimborazo Hospital #1 in Richmond, VA on 4 October , transferred to the 3rd Alabama Hospital there on the 17th, and furloughed home on 22 October for 40 days. He was appointed 2nd Corporal on 1 December 1862 but reduced again to Private on 1 February 1863 for continued absence, being on extended furlough.

He transferred to Company A of the 4th Alabama Cavalry and mustered with them at Murfreesboro, TN on 1 September 1863. He was with them on the Fort Donelson and Nashville Campaigns and was surrendered at Gainesville in May 1865.

After the War

By 1880 and to at least 1900 he was a farmer at Pine Apple, Wilcox County, AL.
