Before Sharpsburg

He was a carpenter at Oakelyville in Shelby County, AL and enlisted there on 2 April 1862 and mustered as a Private in Company D, 44th Alabama Infantry.

On the Campaign

He was severely wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was in a hospital in Richmond, VA by 25 September, and in a hospital in Selma, AL from 13 December to 6 February 1863, then rejoined his company. He was detailed as a hospital nurse from 1 June to 1 August 1863. He was surrendered and paroled at Appomattox Court House, VA on 9 April 1865.
