Before Sharpsburg

A 35 year old farmer in Hillsboro, AL, he enlisted at Montevallo in Shelby County on 10 April 1862, and he mustered as a Private in Company E, 44th Alabama Infantry.

On the Campaign

He was slightly wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was listed as a deserter near Chattanooga, TN on 25 September 1863, but "returned voluntarily" on 27 January 1864. He was captured in action at the Wilderness, VA on 6 May 1864, initially held at Point Lookout, MD, then sent to Elmira, NY on 17 August. He died there of the effects of erysipelas, a bacterial skin infection, on 2 November 1864.
