Before Sharpsburg

A 36 year old farmer at Ranch, Autauga County, AL, he enlisted in Shelby County on 1 April 1862 and mustered as 3rd Corporal of Company E, 44th Alabama Infantry.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in the foot with "fracture of lt [left] 3 metatarsal bones" action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862 and captured there.

The rest of the War

He was admitted to US Army General Hospital #5 in Frederick, MD on 12 October and transferred to Fort McHenry in Baltimore on the 16th. He was sent to Fortress Monroe, VA for exchange on 18 October. He was then in a Richmond, VA hospital until furloughed home on 14 November. He did not return on time, and was absent without leave from February into October 1863 and reduced to Private. He was slightly wounded in the chest in the Wilderness, VA on 6 May 1864, and again absent without leave from 10 August 1864 to at least October. He was paroled at Montgomery, Al on 20 May 1865.
