Before Sharpsburg

A 27 year old clerk in New Orleans, LA, he enlisted there on 22 April 1861 and mustered as 2nd Corporal of Company G, First Louisiana Infantry on 30 April. He was appointed First Corporal by January 1862 and was wounded in the right hand at Shiloh (Pittsburg Landing), TN on 6 April. He was discharged for disability on 14 April.

He enlisted again, on 2 August 1862, and mustered as a Private in Company F, 44th Alabama Infantry.

On the Campaign

He was slightly wounded in his left arm in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was furloughed home on 21 November and returned to duty on 22 December. He was appointed First Sergeant on 20 January 1863, promoted to Senior 2nd Lieutenant on 1 February 1864, and to First Lieutenant on 29 November. He was in Marion, AL from December into January 1865, without leave, but returned to duty and was surrendered and paroled at Appomattox Court House, VA on 9 April 1865.
