Before Sharpsburg

A married 34 year old farmer at Centreville in Bibb County, AL, he enlisted there on 28 March 1862 and mustered as a Private in Company F, 44th Alabama Infantry.

On the Campaign

He was slightly wounded in both legs in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862 and captured there.

The rest of the War

He was admitted to US Army General Hospital #5 in Frederick, MD on 10 October and sent on to the next day. He was in a hospital in Richmond, VA on 18 October and again on 12 November. He was wounded again, at Chickamauga, GA on 20 September 1863, and was admitted to a hospital in Jackson, MS on 1 October. He was furloughed home on 6 December 1863. He was absent recovering and on detail for most of the rest of the war.
