Before Sharpsburg
A married 32 year old farmer at Six Mile in Bibb County, AL, he enlisted there on 14 March 1862 and mustered as a Private in Company F, 44th Alabama Infantry.
On the Campaign
He was wounded by a gunshot to his right thigh in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862, "left on the field," and captured there.
The rest of the War
He was admitted to US Army General Hospital #1 in Frederick, MD on 22 Ocotber, sent on to a hospital in Baltimore on 13 November, and transferred to Fort McHenry on the 17th, probably for exchange. He was in a CS hospital in Petersburg, VA on 21 November and furloughed home for 60 days on 24 November. He returned to duty by May 1863, but was detailed as an ambulance driver from July 1863 to at least January 1864. He was reported missing again, at New Market, VA, having been captured at Deep Bottom, VA on 14 August 1864. He was sent to Point Lookout, MD from Fortress Monroe on the 17th, and sent to Aikens' Landing, VA for exchange on 14 March 1865.
